The attached clip is utilized for the purposes of education, and editorial criticism. I was watching John Stewart on Thursday night, and after a very trumped up War of Words with CNBCs Jim Cramer, Jim Cramer came on the show and actually did an interview. And John Stewart, looked him in the eye and said, You all knew, and I cannot tell you how that makes me feel, because its not a game. And hes right, and for too long, this country has been focused on this disconnected, hyper-inflated, surreal realm that the media has focused on. And when I say the media, I mean the entire media. They all got carried away with nothing else but the hype and misdirection.
This podcast is not about anger. This is not a speech railing against politicians, and Paris Hilton, and OctaMom. This is about something more than anger.
Ive been angry for 8 long years, to the point where Ive disconnected from reality, and I think we all have. I have friends who look at television covering the war, the economic crisis, and all things catastrophic going on, and simply shrug their shoulders saying, Eh, thats life. And then they turn around and go to a world of clubs, of comic-con, and escapism in order to get away from the horrible images surrounding us.
Nowhere is there an influence in the world, telling us to take a moment of quiet. To reach out to one another. To take a breath and look at all this horribleness with a critical eye. Maybe weve forgotten how.
We need to go back to school. We need to go back to basics. We need to knock on our neighbors door, and say, Hey, I got a fax line and a wireless modem. If you need to send out resumes, come on over once a week. We need to go door to door on our block and say, Hey, I have experience with plumbing and construction, if you have a leak or a problem in the next couple of weeks, I can help you out one time. We can look thru our fridge and say, I got a bunch of food thats about to expire, I can have some friends over for a snack and talk strategy on whos doing what in the economy and how we can work together.
William Osler, the man who is credited as the father of modern medicine said, We are here to add what we can to life, not to get what we can from life. I know this sentence flies in the face of everything weve been taught by consumerism advertising, but its true. Youve got to have faith that if you put out a good token into the world, itll come back to you when you least expect it and when you most need it. You gotta have faith in it. Have faith in an overwhelming deity if you want, but more importantly, have faith in yourself, and have faith in the spirit of human kindness. Its the only thing holding this country together, and it will continue to hold this crazy society together because nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can beat the indelible human spirit. Not greed. Not corruption. Not exploding buildings. Not hurricanes. And certainly not any mythical apocalypse, thats been scheduled to come any day now for the past two-thousand years.
We need a realignment of our perceptions. We need to see the world in a brand new light, where we are connected as a community, and well get out of this mess by talking to our neighbors and solving this problem together. We need a revolution. So get shaken, get shocked, and get ready for a revolution.
