You know, I was studying Hamlet recently, and I realized, the whole play isn't about family at all. It's mainly about death and the fragility of life. Like the fall of Icarus (painting), as the royal family dies, as the Father King dies, as Yorick's death before him, they all passed on with minimal effect on the world around them. The world continues to turn, people go about their business, kingdoms rise and fall, and none of us are ever the worst or better off.
