Disband the department of Education?

So, I was listening to some radio station, I think it was AM radio, and Bob Barr came on for an interview. You know, he was the guy who was the head of the Clinton impeachment.

Well, he's running for President as a Libertarian. One of the things he wants to do is disbanding the department of education.

It seemed to make a lot of sense, but I dunno. Something seemed really wrong about it. Is it safe to disband the department of education?

Everyone keeps saying it, but it feels weird to me.

OK, I did some research. The Department of education does a ton of research, and also protects the rights of people who can't protect themselves. People who society keeps down, like minorities, the handicap, and a whole bunch of other people. If they don't do that, who will?
